The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets have both advanced past division rivals in the NLDS, progressing to the NLCS and keeping their postseason ambitions alive. The Dodgers rallied from a 2-1 series deficit to defeat the Padres in a dramatic Game 5 shutdown. Meanwhile, the Mets bested the Phillies in four games, with Francisco Lindor driving the Mets to their first playoff series victory at Citi Field.

This marks the fourth postseason encounter between these teams, with the Mets winning the 2015 and 2006 NLDS, while the Dodgers triumphed in the 1988 NLCS. This best-of-seven series begins on Sunday in Los Angeles, with the winner proceeding to the World Series to meet either the New York Yankees or the team that emerges victorious from the Cleveland Guardians vs. Detroit Tigers NLDS.

The Dodgers' pitching staff is expected to outperform the Mets'. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, having delivered an exceptional Game 5 performance, boosts the Dodgers' pitching arsenal. Jack Flaherty provides strong support as a second starter. The Dodgers' bullpen depth is a significant strength, having showcased talent across 15 relievers this season. Notable performances from Blake Treinen, Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia, Daniel Hudson, and Michael Kopech underscore this depth, contributing to their postseason success.

While the Mets' rotation has shown promise, it faces challenges. Kodai Senga is making a return, despite some decreases in velocity. Edwin Díaz, despite a rocky postseason ERA and control issues, remains a key figure. The Mets’ bullpen has struggled with consistency, but its lineup is versatile, matching power with strategic hitting to gain advantages in late-game scenarios.

The Dodgers' lineup has been powered by Mookie Betts and supported by Shohei Ohtani, offering both depth and experience. Their bullpen's ability to deliver scoreless innings has been crucial, particularly Yamamoto's standout closing game against the Padres and Flaherty's impending start in the NLCS.

On the Mets' side, Francisco Lindor remains pivotal, driving the team's resurgence with critical performances that lifted the Mets into the NLCS, marking one of the franchise's most remarkable individual seasons.

Freddie Freeman's participation in the Dodgers' lineup remains uncertain due to a lingering ankle injury, although he aims to contribute in the NLCS opener.

The Dodgers and Mets present an exciting matchup, each team showcasing unique strengths and battling to meet the ultimate goal: an appearance in the World Series.
